Dear Fellow Tolt Solutions Techs,
We’re all professionals who take pride in the work we do. We’re proud Tolt employees and wouldn’t be here if we weren’t. In return for our loyalty and hard work, we expect fair treatment from management and a secure future for our families.
Since Clearlake Capital acquired the company, we’ve seen several changes and signs that more are likely on the way. Because these changes have not tended to be favorable to us as Tolt employees, we decided to become a more active participant in the employer-employee relationship.
As individual “at-will employees”, we had little choice but to accept management decisions or look for another job. However, we discovered an alternative. The United States Government, through the National Labor Relations Act, gives employees the right to form unions and negotiate collectively with their employer over the terms and conditions of their employment. If the majority of the employees demonstrate their support for this, and their union is certified by the National Labor Relations Board as the representative of the employees in the collective bargaining unit, their employer must bargain in good faith with that union for a written contract covering things like wages, benefits, hours of work, etc.
We, the Tolt Solutions employees in the Wakefern and Whole Foods groups chose the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) because it’s the largest and most respected union of power professionals in North America, and possesses the resources to help us accomplish our goals. IBEW Local Union 98 is now certified as our collective bargaining representative and we’re currently negotiating with Tolt management for our first contract.
This website was created as a means to provide information to our fellow Tolt Solutions employees and to invite them to contact us if they would like information about forming a union in their group.
Supervisors might try telling you that the IBEW is a third party or a special interest group that could get in the way of dealing with management. In reality, the union is us. IBEW Local 98 does bring important resources to the table such as knowledge and experience, but this is our union, our jobs, our future, our voice. As professionals, we decide together how to best advocate for advancements in our work lives. We’ve joined 725,000 other workers throughout the U.S. and Canada who do the very same thing. We didn’t bring in a union, we formed one. If you think you may be interested in doing this too, the first step is to begin communicating and working together.
The choice is yours to make, so please read through this website and contact us for further information and to have your specific questions and concerns answered. All conversations will be strictly confidential. Let’s talk about how we can work together for a better tomorrow.
