IBEW Mourns Passing of Steelworkers International President Thomas Conway
IBEW International President Kenneth W. Cooper issued the following statement on the passing of United Steelworkers International President Tom Conway:
“The IBEW joins the entire North American labor community in mourning the loss of the Steelworkers’ Tom Conway.
“Tom’s title may have been international president, but his roots were in the steel mills and factories where he and so many of his members sacrificed blood, sweat and tears in the fight for greater worker power and fair treatment on the job.
“Whether it was fighting unjust trade agreements or bargaining across the table from some of the world’s richest and most powerful corporations, Tom was at his finest when fighting for workers, and all of North America’s working families — not just his Steelworker sisters and brothers — owe him a great deal of gratitude.
“The labor movement lost a great leader today, and I and the 820,000 members of the IBEW share in the grief of his membership, his family and his many friends and admirers.”
